Glaucoma is a very common eye condition that usually stems from
high eye (intra-ocular) pressure. Just like a Basketball, the
higher the pressure, the harder the eye. This high intra-ocular
pressure is thought to lead to damage to the Optic Nerve, which,
with time, can cause permanent blindness.
Dr. Soroudi checks each and every one of his patients for
glaucoma (no matter what the reason for visit), as this is
one eye condition, which, with early detection could be easily
prevented.

There are multiple available technologies to best test and monitor
the health of your vision, Visual Field, and Optic Nerve, and
Dr. Soroudi possesses only the most advanced technology available
to date. The Soroudi Advanced Eye Center is equipped with a
Humphrey
Field Analyzer, which is the "Gold Standard" in
Perimetry used for glaucoma screening today, as well as a Stratus
OCT unit which provides extremely accurate imaging and analysis
of the Optic Nerve, all by Carl
Zeiss Meditec, as well as the most up to date Pachymeter
(Pachmate DGH55) to best examine the central corneal thickness
(an important clue in the management of Glaucoma).

The Soroudi Advanced Eye Center is also equipped with a Visucam
Pro fundus camera, which allows accurate imaging of the
optic nerve for close observation.
Although the mainstay of Glaucoma treatment today is the
use of a variety of eye drops which effectively reduce the
intra-ocular pressure, Dr. Soroudi is trained and experienced
in utilizing laser technology to reduce eye pressure, obviating
the need for regular eye drops. To this end, Dr. Soroudi utilizes
SLT (Selective Laser Trabeculoplasty), which is a safe and
simple in-office laser treatment that effectively reduces
the pressure in the eye for most patients with glaucoma.
The SLT mechanism of effect does not rely on medicines, instead,
it uses an advanced laser system to target only specific cells
of the eye-those containing melanin, a natural pigment. This
allows for only these cells to be affected, leaving surrounding
tissue intact. As a result, your body's own healing response
helps lower the pressure in your eye.
Dr. Soroudi is also specially trained to perform complicated
glaucoma operations in those whose eyes do not respond to
either drops or laser treatment. These procedures include
trabeculoplasty with the application of Mitomycin-C, as well
as the placement of special Valves that help reduce severe
ocular hypertension.
Glaucoma (ICE Syndrome)
The eye of a patient with an extremely rare form of Glaucoma
(ICE Syndrome) with a pressure of 65 (normal pressure is up
to 21mmHg) prior to surgery (left) Vs. The same eye the day
after Valve Surgery with a pressure of 14mmHg. Notice the small
plastic tube inside the eye on the right.
Dr. Soroudi will discuss all of your treatment options with
you during your consultation.
